During this event, the brand also introduced the Speedmaster Dark Side link of the Moon Apollo 8.Today, we are looking at the SPB281 with its silver dial color and steel bracelet. Of all the variations, this one caught my attention the most and I knew I needed to call it in for review. It's the purest distillation of the King Seiko ethos with its unabashedly mid-century sensibility and straightforward no-nonsense dial design.

The snake’s triangular head contains the dial while its body entwines the wrist with flexible rings (Tubogas), a precious cuff or leather spirals. The dial construction is one major difference between old and new. According link to Omega, the dial is comprised of two plates. The first plate is applied with a blue-emitting Super-LumiNova, while the top plate has cut-outs for the indexes and numerals. This is effectively a sandwich-style dial, but it doesn't end there. The markers are recessed and filled with a healthy dose of luminous material as well. The "open Arabic" numerals have been used before by Omega, on the Seamaster 300 in the 1960s.With watches, you're usually in better shape in terms of environmental impact – mechanical watches are often something you keep for at least a generation or two and the environmental impact is minimal. Where you start to run into murkier waters is with materials like gold – it's hard to wear a gold watch without also having in the back of your mind the fact that mining and refining gold comes with a massive pollution footprint, usually in otherwise pristine natural habitats.

Copper aside, not much has changed link with the Octo. Still very thin (6.4mm) and slightly wide (40mm) with a very thin manufacture movement ticking away inside. There's a stainless steel screw-down crown and transparent caseback so you can see what that movement is up to. The watch is limited to North America and there will only be 50 pieces available at $13,300.Okay, we get it, a trio of nicely made, good-looking, and fun flyer GMTs – but what's the price? Well, the range starts with the diver at $1,295, while the steel "Pepsi" model bumps up to $1,350, and the gold-tone tops the range at $1,395 – and all three are currently exclusive to the Hodinkee Shop. There are five dial options in the standard steel case: ice blue, green, black, blue (all $695), and the new–for-35mm white mother of pearl ($750). There's also a gold-tone version with matching champagne dial ($825). I had the three best ones in for review: ice blue, mother of pearl, and "gold." Each dial is stamped with a waffle-style pattern. The lume signature is relatively low but functional, with SuperLumiNova on the hands and applied indices.
